Introduction

If you have run out of space on your hard disk and want to move it to a bigger drive you have installed in your PC, there's an easy process you can follow to transfer your installation to the other drive. You don't need to be a computer expert to complete these steps, as Steam includes all the necessary functions for you to move a game very easily.

The default installation location for games will be in the same folder as the Steam client: \\Steam\steamapps\common

However, you can create multiple Steam library folders (one per storage drive). Then, when installing games, you will be able to select which library folder you wish to install the game to.

How to create a new Steam library folder

  1. Open the Steam.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Storage.
  3. Then, click on the icon to add a new folder.
  4. To make this the new default installation location, click on the "..." and select Make Default.

How to move a game to different library folder

  1. Open Steam.
  2. Go to Library.
  3. Right-click on a game, go to Properties > Installed Files.
  4. Click Move install folder.
  5. Choose one of the Steam Library folders you set up earlier.
  6. Then, select Move.
