What is Train Sim World 3?

Train Sim World 3 is an immersive and highly detailed rail simulation and a brand-new entry in the Train Sim World series.  It will offer 3 new routes, as well as a series of new features, including dynamic weather, improved lighting, the Training Center and much more, detailed below.


What routes and locos are included with Train Sim World 3 Standard Edition?

Schnellfahrstrecke Kassel - Würzburg Route Add-On 

  • 186 km (116-mile) high-speed route from Kassel to Wurzburg

What new features will Train Sim World 3 have?

What is new and improved in Southeastern Highspeed: London St Pancras – Ashford Intl & Faversham? 

  • Extended from London St Pancras to Ashford Intl and from Gravesend to Dartford.
  • New lighting and dynamic weather effects.
  • The route now covers 89 miles (143 km) in total. 
  • Ebbsfleet Station can be fully explored by taking the walkway across platforms. 
  • Catenary and overhead lines have been overhauled to represent the route more accurately.
  • Enhanced signalling and safety systems (TPWS).
  • 5 new scenarios, bringing the total to 21. 
  • The Class 465 is now included as standard and a refreshed Timetable.

Which Train Sim World 3 bundle should I buy?

Players who already own Southeastern High Speed: St Pancras - Faversham Route Add-on and/or Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe Add-on in Train Sim World 2 will receive the updated version of these routes for free upon purchasing any copy of Train Sim World 3 (on the same platform & account). 


Please Note: Players will not be refunded or compensated if they already own an add-on that is included in a Train Sim World 3 bundle. Therefore, we would recommend that players carefully choose the bundle that is right for them.

Will Train Sim World 3 be supported on Xbox One and PlayStation 4?

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (8th Gen Consoles) will continue to be supported. As with previous releases, if there are any expected differences with experience between 8th- and 9th-gen platforms within the core Train Sim World 3 routes, we will update this FAQ.

 

What are the advantages of playing on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S?

Playing on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S (9th Gen Consoles) will provide a wider range of AI traffic, faster load times and higher fidelity graphics (equivalent to PC High Settings) at 4k resolution with improved performance over 8th gen consoles. 


When will Train Sim World 2 be leaving Xbox Game Pass?

Train Sim World 2 will be leaving Xbox Game Pass on 15th of August 2022. However, the Standard Edition of Train Sim World 3 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch.


Train Sim World 3 will be compatible with any add-ons you may have purchased. Therefore, it will not be necessary to purchase Train Sim World 2, unless you wish to keep playing in the interim.

Can Train Sim World 3 be installed at the same time as previous Train Sim World games?

Train Sim World 3 can be installed alongside Train Sim World 2020 or Train Sim World 2 without issue. However, you will need to redownload the equivalent add-ons for Train Sim World 3 to use them.


Will Train Sim World 2 continue to be supported?

Train Sim World 2 will not be compatible with any new add-ons. However, the Roadmap article on https://live.dovetailgames.com will contain details of any future updates that will be coming to Train Sim World 2.


Can I still upgrade the PS4 disc version of Train Sim World 2 to the digital PS5 version?

Train Sim World 2 is no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store. Therefore, you will not be able to upgrade a PS4 disc version of Train Sim World 2 to the digital PS5 version if you have not done so already.

Will my Train Sim World 2 progress carry over?

Data uploaded to your Dovetail Live account (Content uploaded to Creators Club, Mastery, Railfan Shots) will transfer between games.


Update: In progress will transfer from Train Sim World 2 to Train Sim World 3 including:

  • Driver Profile and completion progress on existing content.
  • Livery Designer Creations
  • Scenario Planner Creations
  • Creators Club Uploads
  • Achievement progress from Train Sim World 2 add-ons. (For Instance, if you have driven a 1000 miles on a route, any achievements with criteria under 1000 miles will be unlocked the first time you play the route in Train Sim World 3)

Please Note: Progress transfer for the Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store (PC) will not be available, at this time.


How will dynamic weather affect gameplay? 

The weather conditions can change dynamically as you drive. No matter whether you are in a service or a scenario you can experience worsening or improving weather conditions. Furthermore, it will appear as a one of many weather pre-sets in Timetable Mode, so it can be disabled if this is your preference.

 

Will there be a manual for Train Sim World 3?

Yes, there will be a full manual for Train Sim World 3. Also, the new in-game Training Center will provide additional training for each new release. 

 

What is the Training Center?

The Training Center will give you one centralized location to cover all your training needs. Training will cover a variety of locomotive operations. The Training Center test track will give you the ideal location to try out new locomotives.


Legacy Add-ons

What is a legacy add-on?

Legacy add-ons are add-ons which were originally created for Train Sim World 2020 or Train Sim World 2, but can be used in Train Sim World 3.


When will legacy add-ons for Train Sim World 3 be available to download?

Legacy add-ons will gradually be made available over a 24 hour period, starting from the launch time on your chosen platform, with the exception of PlayStation who will be following a different roll-out plan.

Week 1: 6th September

  • Southeastern High Speed and Spirit of Steam TSW3 version and free upgrade for TSW2 players
  • Train Sim World 2 Core routes
  • Routes featured in the Preserved Collection updates from today

Week 3: 20th September

  • TSW2020 routes and locos


Which legacy add-ons will be available at Train Sim World 3's launch?

Every add-on which was available for Train Sim World 2 will be available at launch except for the New Journeys Expansion which will follow shortly thereafter.


Can I use Train Sim World 2020/2 add-ons with Train Sim World 3?

Yes, digitally purchased add-ons from previous Train Sim World games will automatically entitle you to the equivalent add-on in Train Sim World 3 (only on the same platform & account). This will be available at Train Sim World 3’s launch.


Please note: The NEC: New York, Amtrak SW1000R and CSX GP40-2 add-ons will not be compatible with Train Sim World 3.


What if the add-ons were included on the disc of a previous Train Sim World game?

A support article will be available at launch to help players through the process of downloading add-ons you already own for Train Sim World 3.

 

How do I download add-ons from previous Train Sim World games in Train Sim World 3?

What is a “Train Sim World Compatible” Add-on?

When you browse the store on your chosen platform, you will find a single store page for every add-on made for a Train Sim World game, instead of one for each game.


However, purchasing add-ons marked with the “Train Sim World Compatible” logo (see below) will entitle you to that add-on in Train Sim World 3 and any previous Train Sim World games that may be applicable (on the same platform and account).


Train Sim World Compatible add-ons allow Train Sim World 3 to be backward compatible with add-ons that were created for a previous game. However, Add-ons with this logo will not have Train Sim World 3 exclusive features.

Xbox - Store pages for previous Train Sim World add-ons will still be visible on Xbox platforms. However, they will not be purchasable. Therefore, you will need to look out for store pages with the Train Sim World Compatible logo to purchase an add-on.
Epic - Store pages for Train Sim World 2 add-ons will still be visible on the Epic Games Store due to how backward-compatiblity works on this platform. However, both the new and old store pages will redirect you to the same location to purchase, with blocks on to prevent accidental purschasing of content you already own.


Will I still be able to purchase Train Sim World 2020 and Train Sim World 2 add-ons?

Yes, when you purchase an add-on marked with the Train Sim World Compatible logo you will be able to download it for Train Sim World 2020 and/or Train Sim World 2, so long as the add-on was made for these games (Please check the product description).

 

What features will “Train Sim World Compatible” add-ons benefit from in Train Sim World 3?

Train Sim World Compatible add-ons will support dynamic weather and new lightning effects in Timetable Mode.

 

If I own Southeastern High Speed or Spirit of Steam for Train Sim World 2, will I have to pay for the same add-ons in Train Sim World 3?

Players who already own Southeastern High Speed: St Pancras - Faversham Route Add-on and/or Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe Add-on in Train Sim World 2 will receive the updated versions of these routes for free upon purchasing any copy of Train Sim World 3 (on the same platform & account). 

 

If I buy a Train Sim World 3 bundle containing an add-on I already own from a previous game, will I be refunded/compensated?

No, players will not be refunded or compensated if they already own an add-on that is included in a Train Sim World 3 bundle. Therefore, we would recommend that players carefully choose the bundle that is right for them, from the six bundles available.

 

Can you transfer add-ons or games across different platforms?

No, add-ons or games cannot be transferred across different platforms (e.g. the PlayStation Store to Steam).

 

Is Train Sim World 3 compatible with Train Simulator Classic?

No, there is no compatibility between Train Sim World 3 and Train Simulator Classic.
