How to set your Xbox as your "Home Console"

You will need to do this to ensure that you have the correct permissions to use your digital purchases on your current console.

When you change home consoles, all device licenses for digital content will move to your new home Xbox. These device licenses will no longer be available on your previous home Xbox. In other words, when you switch your home Xbox, access to your content comes with you to your new home Xbox, and anyone signed in can enjoy it. Your previous home Xbox will still give your friends and family access to your stuff when you’re signed in to it.

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Personalization, and then select My home Xbox.
  3. Do either of the following:
  4. Select Make this my home Xbox to designate the console as your home Xbox.
  5. Select Remove this as my home Xbox to remove the designation.

How to close an app or game on Xbox

If you encounter a problem with an Xbox app or game, or if you just want to switch to a different one, it’s easy to close the app or game you’re using. Here’s how:

  1. Start by pressing the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Verify that the game or app you wish to close is highlighted from the mini-guide on the left side of the screen, and then press the Menu button on your controller.
  3. Select Quit.

Note that if the problem with your game or app is causing the console to be unresponsive, power cycle your console instead.

How to power cycle your console

You can perform a full power cycle on your Xbox console, to reboot it completely and fix many common issues. This process does not erase any of your games or data.

  1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
  2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.
    • Important: Make sure that you wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

    • Important Do not unplug the power cable whilst the console is in "Instant On" mode.

  3. Plug the console power cable back in.
  4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.
