Will Train Sim World 5 be available on Xbox Game Pass?

Yes, Train Sim World 5: Standard Edition will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from launch (Source: Xbox Wire).

Will there be a boxed version of Train Sim World 5?

A boxed copy of Train Sim World will be coming to consoles in early 2025.

There's no PS4 compatibility tag for Train Sim World 5 on the PlayStation Store. Is it compatible?

To start with, we can confirm that all Train Sim World 5 pre-orders from the PlayStation Store will grant you both the PS4 and PS5 version of the game. Due to a PlayStation Store limitation the PS4 compatibility tag can only be added after the game has been released. Unforunately, we still have no way to override this during the pre-order phase.

Example:

Why is the Free Starter Pack in my library, when I purchased a bundle?

Due to the way most platforms works, the base game has been renamed to the "Free Starter Pack". This enables us to give away the base game as the Free Starter Pack without any add-ons. This means everyone will get the Free Starter Pack in their library, whether you claimed it for free or bought a paid bundle.

Why can't I see the Deluxe/Special Edition in my library?

Deluxe/Special Edition is the name of the bundle, but you will not see this represented in your library. Purchasing these bundles, will give you the base game, plus all the named add-ons in that bundle.

If I pre-order a TSW 5 bundle or add-on, will I get access to compatible content in TSW 4?

Where applicable certain add-ons will be backwards compatible with TSW 4 and older titles in the series. However, these entitlements won't be available untill the official Train Sim World 5 launch. For compatibility, please check the Train Sim World Add-On Compatibility Guide.

Why doesn't the store page display the Early Access unlock date?

The store page will only show the official launch date. However, the game will unlock for Early Access for anyone who has bought the Deluxe/Special Edition.

Why does the Deluxe Editon not show as owned anymore?

This is expected behaviour and will have no impact on your ability to access or play the game. The "Deluxe Edition Pre-order" and "Day 1 Deluxe Edition" are two different products, which swap out when the game is released. Therefore, if you pre-ordered the game, you can no longer see that product on the store.

During early access you will have access to the full game, including everything in your chosen bundle (Deluxe/Special). For the first time, Steam players will have the opportunity to download their Compatible Content during Early Access.

Where can I submit my feedback during Early Access?

Gameplay Questions

How has the Live Map been improved?

The eagerly anticipated update to the live map is here! Finding your way has never been easier with the new UI Legend and tooltips. You will be able to see locations, stations, services, platforms, and objectives on the map. Want to know where a service is headed, hover over it for more information. Not sure whether an upcoming signal will affect you?  Updated signal graphics will clearly show which way it is facing. Additionally, the tooltip will tell you the signal number and aspect. The new live map will be compatible with all content.

How has the Training Center been improved?

The Training Center is the core of Train Sim World 5, and as such we have made many improvements to make it more accessible.

Playable tutorials have been reworked and expanded upon to ensure that players have a rewarding learning experience. We’ve also included a variety of written and video tutorials covering everything from basic operations to advanced signalling procedures. What’s more, you can access this information at any time from the pause menu.

Lastly, we’ve added the BR 146.2 & Doppelstock coaching set to the Training Center to give new players a taste of German engineering.

What is Conductor Mode?

Returning players may be familiar with Conductor Mode as it provided a new way to play in specific scenarios. We’ve expanded upon this concept in an all-new dedicated Conductor mode. We've chosen to support specific locos and services in Timetable mode where conductors would be present in real-life. Typically, we've only included services with frequent stops, to ensure players have an engaging experience.

Services with conductor mode support can be identified by the ticket icon. Selecting a supported service will give you the option to play as a Driver or a Conductor. In this mode players will be taking on an array on duties, including checking tickets, door operations, clearing baggage and ensuring the train is clear for departure. Each expeience is authentic to the route you are driving on. This includes the door operation procudures and driver contact, whether that be by radio, buzzer or whistle. Taking on the role of the Conductor is currently supported on:

San Bernardino Line

WCML: London Euston – Milton Keynes

Frankfurt – Fulda

Class 350

766.2 DBpbzfa DB

MP36PH-3C Metrolink

BR 114 DB

Rotem Bi-Level Cab Car Metrolink

BR 146.2

How has Photo Mode been improved?

Capture the velocity of a passing train with background motion blur, while keeping your train in sharp focus. Dial in the perfect atmosphere with a new sepia filter, adjustable time of day and weather conditions.

What is Fast Travel?

Get about with ease by fast travelling to any station within a route without returning to the main menu. On any route, simply open the live map and click on a location to be teleported there. Alternatively, hit Shift + F or LB/L1 + Y/Triangle on a controller to bring up a list of fast travel locations.

What is Route Hopping?

New Train Sim World 5 routes will let you jump to another route where two or more routes share the common locations. This will allow you to continue your journey without returning to the main menu. Just activate the in-game marker on foot and select a location to be taken to another route. If you don’t own a compatible route the game will tell you what you need to jump there. Below, you'll find a comprehensive list of all route-hopping options coming to Train Sim World 5.

What are Digital Display Screens?

Modern trains often use digital displays to operate critical functions, but this can be fiddly to control. Our new interactive displays in Train Sim World 5 will allow you to fill the screen with the interactive display and prevent the camera from moving. Interaction with the display is done using a virtual cursor that can be moved using a controller, mouse or keyboard depending on what your platform supports. This feature will work with any locomotive using digital displays.

How have achievements changed in Train Sim World 5?

We have listened to player feedback and understand that repeating the same old achievements you already unlocked in the previous game is not fun. For this reason, Train Sim World 5 will start with a clean slate, introducing a brand-new set of achievements that are only applicable to new content.

How you can you control layers in timetable mode and what does it do?

The new interface allows you to toggle timetable layers on/off, allowing players to tailor their experience. Don’t like seeing a particular loco on a route? Disable it! Performance on older machines may also benefit from running a quieter timetable.

Example (Kassel -Wurzburg):

How have track shadows been improved?

Track shadows have been overhauled to push out the rendering distance whilst having a minimal impact on performance. No more distracting pop-in from track shadows. This feature is supported on the Training Center  following routes:

London Overground: Suffragette lineLinke Rhienstrecke

If you purchased your compatible content digitally you will be automatically entitled to download the TSW 5 version of those add-ons. So long as your add-ons were purchased on the same platform and account that you purchased Train Sim World 5 on.

To do this, please follow the instructions for your platform below. Where an add-on was purchased as part of a bundle, you will need to download the individual components of that bundle.

If you are not upgrading from Train Sim World 4, the PlayStation download process will differ, so please continue reading for further details.

How do I download my compatible content on PlayStation?

If you are not upgrading from Train Sim World 4, there will be a few more steps required to download your Train Sim World 5 compatible content.

The add-on entitlements for Train Sim World 5 only go back as far as TSW 4. Therefore, if you do not own the TSW  4 version of an add-on, you won’t be able to download the TSW 5 version.

If you are upgrading from TSW 2020, Train Sim World 2, or 3 you will need to upgrade all your add-ons to TSW 4, then TSW 5. You can do all this without owning the TSW 4 base game, and in advance of the Train Sim World 5 release.

Examples:

Depending on which version of an add-on you currently own, the examples below demonstrate the order in which you will need to download your add-ons to get to Train Sim World 5.

  • TSW 2020: Great Western Express > TSW 4: Great Western Express > TSW 5: Great Western Express
  • TSW 2: London Commuter > TSW 4: Brighton Main Line > TSW 5: Brighton Main Line
  • TSW 3: Birmingham Cross-City > TSW 4: Birmingham Cross-City > TSW 5: Birmingham Cross-City

How to Upgrade your PlayStation add-ons to TSW 4, then TSW 5

  1. Open the PlayStation Store
  2. Search for the TSW 4 store page for the desired add-on.
  3. Select Download to own this TSW 4 version.
  4. Then cancel the download.
  5. When available, search for the TSW 5 store page for the desired add-on.
  6. Select Download to install the TSW 5 add-on.

What can I do if my add-ons were included on a disc?

If you own a boxed copy of a previous Train Sim World game on console, you won’t be able to download a TSW 5 version of the add-ons included on the disc. To resolve this problem, please send a Product Key Claim to Dovetail Support. The infographic below explains what each disc will entitle you to. If you have already claimed keys for a disc, you do not need to claim again for Train Sim World 5.

Does Dovetail Live keep a record of my purchases?

No, Dovetail Live has no association with your purchases. Your game/add-on purchases are tied to your platform account (i.e. PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Steam or Epic Games Store).

Can I transfer my games/add-ons to a different platform?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer games or add-ons across separate platforms. This is an industry standard and not something we have any control over. Furthermore, we are not involved with the financial side of your purchases from these platforms, as such you should refer to the retailer you purchased from, if you have a query about your purchase. The following are separate platforms with their own storefronts.

Platforms:

  • PlayStation
  • Xbox/Microsoft Store/Game Pass for PC
  • Steam (PC)
  • Epic Games Store (PC)

When you purchase an add-on or game from one of these platforms, you acquire a licence to use that content solely on the platform it was bought from. Consequently, you are bound by the terms and conditions established by the platform provider (e.g., PlayStation). These game licences are non-transferrable.

To use a real-world example: "Buying a ticket for one airline won't get you a seat on a different airline's flight".

The sole exception lies with Microsoft, who sell Play Anywhere products. These products can be used across all Xbox and Microsoft Store platforms, where the product explicitly states that it is compatible with Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X and PC platforms.

Will Train Sim World 4 be compatible with new add-ons?

No, Train Sim World 4 will not be compatible with any add-ons released after the launch of Train Sim World 5.
