Downloading Compatible Content

If you own a previous game in the Train Sim World series or add-ons on the same platform and account, then you may already have a collection of compatible content waiting to be downloaded in Train Sim World 5. In this section, we will learn how to download these add-ons on your chosen platform.


Important: Compatible Content will be available to download after the launch of Train Sim World 5. For approximate timings on your platform, please check the Train Sim World 5 FAQ.


Train Sim World Console Games on Disc

If you own a Train Sim World game on a PlayStation or Xbox disc, you will need to Contact Dovetail Support to use the add-ons included on the disc with Train Sim World 5. However, you will not need to do this if you have previously claimed the digital version of these add-ons.

PlayStation Consoles

The following instructions are suitable for players who have bought Train Sim World 5 add-ons, or already have a collection of compatible content in Train Sim World 4. If you are coming from an older game in the series, please keep reading for instructions.


PlayStation 4

  1. From the Home Screen, go to Library > Games.
  2. Select Train Sim World 5.
  3. Go down to PlayStation Store > View All.
  4. Select an add-on you want to download.
  5. If you are asked to Choose a Version, then select the first available option, and press Download.
  6. If you can’t find something you own, go to the PlayStation Store from the Home Screen.
  7. Then, select Search and type in the add-on name.
  8. Select the add-on marked “Train Sim World 5 Compatible”.
  9. Then select Download or Choose Version > Free > Download (If you see an error message, this won’t be the correct download for your game). 
  10. To fix this, simply go back and choose the next available option from the drop-down menu.
  11. To check on the progress of your download, go to Notifications > Downloads.
  12. To start the game, you will need to complete any active downloads


PlayStation 5

  1. Highlight Train Sim World 5 and press the Option button on your controller.
  2. Select Manage Game Content and select an add-on to start downloading.
  3. To view the progress of your downloads, press the PlayStation button and navigate to Downloads/Uploads.
  4. If you can’t find an add-on, go back to the home screen, and open the PlayStation Store.
  5. Select Search and type in the add-on name.
  6. Now, select the add-on marked “Train Sim World 5 Compatible” and then Download.
Important: Please be aware that downloading directly from the store page will attempt to download every version of that add-on.
  1. If you have downloads for games or platforms you don’t need, press the PlayStation button and navigate to Downloads/Uploads.
  2. Now, select the unwanted download and press the Options button, then Cancel and Delete.
  3. Before starting the game, please complete any active downloads.


How to upgrade add-ons to TSW 4, then TSW 5

If you are not upgrading from Train Sim World 4, there will be a few more steps required to download your Train Sim World 5 compatible content. 


The add-on entitlements for Train Sim World 5 only go back as far as TSW 4. Therefore, if you do not own the TSW 4 version of an add-on, you won’t be able to download the TSW 5 version.


If you are upgrading from TSW 2020, Train Sim World 2, or 3 you will need to upgrade all your add-ons to TSW 4, then TSW 5. You can do all this without owning the TSW 4 base game, and in advance of the Train Sim World 5 release.


Examples:


Depending on which version of an add-on you currently own, the examples below demonstrate the order in which you will need to download your add-ons to get to Train Sim World 5.

  • TSW 2020: Great Western Express > TSW 4: Great Western Express > TSW 5: Great Western Express
  • TSW 2: London Commuter > TSW 4: Brighton Main Line > TSW 5: Brighton Main Line
  • TSW 3: Birmingham Cross-City > TSW 4: Birmingham Cross-City > TSW 5: Birmingham Cross-City


How to Upgrade your PlayStation add-ons to TSW 4, then TSW 5

  1. Open the PlayStation Store.
  2. Search for the TSW 4 Compatible store page of the desired add-on.
  3. Select Download to own this TSW 4 version.
  4. Then cancel the download.
  5. When available, search for the TSW 5 Compatible store page of the desired add-on.
  6. Select Download to install the TSW 5 add-on.

Xbox Consoles

Xbox One/Series S|X

  1. From the Dashboard, select My games & apps > Games.
  2. Then, highlight Train Sim World 5 and press the View button to Manage Game.
  3. Select Train Sim World 5 again and then Manage installation on Internal storage.
  4. Next, check the add-ons you want to install.
  5. Then press Save Changes to start downloading.
  6. To view your download progress, simply go to My Games & Apps > Manage > Queue.
  7. Before you start the game, make sure you have completed any active downloads.

PC Platforms

Steam

  1. Open Steam.
  2. Navigate to the Library > Train Sim World 5.
  3. Right-click on Train Sim World 5 and go to Properties > DLC.
  4. Add a tick next to the add-on you want to download. Simply remove the tick to uninstall an add-on. 
  5. To check on the progress of your download, go to Library > Downloads at the bottom of the window.
  6. Before starting the game, please complete any active downloads.


Epic Game Store

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Navigate to the Library and locate Train Sim World 5.
  3. Now click on the "..." under the game art.
  4. Go to Manage Add-Ons.
  5. From here, you may use the toggle button in the Installed column to add/remove an add-on.
  6. Then, click on Apply Changes to start the download.
  7. To check on the progress of your download, click on Downloads in the lower left corner of the window.
  8. Before starting the game, please complete any active downloads.


Microsoft Store/Xbox for PC

Xbox App

  1. Open the Xbox app and go to My Library.
  2. Select Owned and select Train Sim World 5.
  3. Scroll down to Add-ons for this game and click on Show All.
  4. Select an add-on (it should be marked as "Owned").
  5. Click on Install to start the download process. The Install button should update to display Installing.
  6. To check on the progress of your download, go to Downloading in the bottom left of the window.
  7. Before starting the game, please complete any active downloads.

Microsoft Store App

  1. Open the Microsoft Store App.
  2. Go to Library > Games.
  3. Click on Sort and filter and untick "show installed products only".
  4. Brose the list of products for the add-on you want to install.
  5. Click on the cloud icon next to the add-on to download.
  6. To check on the progress of your download scroll to the top of the Library page.
  7. Before starting the game, please complete any active downloads. 

Web Page

  1. Go to: https://www.xbox.com/en-gb/games
  2. Sign into your Microsoft account.
  3. Search for the add-on you want to download
  4. In the search results, select the add-on marked "Train Sim World 5 Compatible".
  5. Click on Install To > PC > Launch.
  6. Press Install to begin the download inside the Xbox App.
  7. To check on the progress of your download, go to Downloading in the bottom left of the window.
  8. Before starting the game, please complete any active downloads.
